Homework Assignment

Consider the following experiment. A greenhouse is interested in growing roses. There are 4 different types of rose plants (numbered 1-4), and the goal of the experiment is to determine which type of rose plant produces the most flowers. The experiment will consist of growing roses of the 4 types in 24 pots. The 24 pots are arranged on 6 tables that were selected at random from all tables in the greenhouse. Each table holds 4 pots.

The data from this experiment can be read into SAS with the following code. The response variable of interest is the number of flowers each rose plant produces over a growing season.

  1. Write out an appropriate model for the analysis of this RCBD experiment.
  2. Analyze this experimental data in SAS, and report the results.
  3. Assume that you are going to repeat the experiment. Provide SAS code and to randomly assign treatments (rose types) to the 24 experimental units (pots) on the 6 tables using a RCBD. Draw a picture illustrating the resulting design.
